Fides ("Fides," "the app," "we") is a personal fitness and nutrition app, currently in early testing with a small group of users. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email mauipossum.picker@gmail.com and you'll get a direct answer — this is a small, independently-run app, not a policy written to be vague.
Information we collect
We only collect what the app actually needs to work. That's:
- Account information: your email address and password (handled and encrypted by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your password ourselves).
- Profile & health/fitness details you choose to provide during onboarding or in Profile settings — first name, age, sex, height, weight, body fat percentage, fitness goals, experience level, training preferences, injuries or limitations, dietary preferences, and food allergies. This is used solely to personalize your own targets and suggestions.
- Content you create in the app: workout logs, food logs, saved meals and exercises, your weekly training split, meal plans, daily check-ins, and progress/streak data.
- Coach conversations: messages you send to Your Coach and the AI-generated (or built-in, non-AI) replies.
- Barcode/food lookups: when you scan a barcode, the barcode number itself is sent to a nutrition database to look up the product — no account or personal information is attached to that request.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or anything from your device beyond what you type into the app or a barcode you choose to scan.
How we use it
Your information is used only to run the app's features for you:
- Showing your own logs, history, and progress back to you.
- Calculating your nutrition and training targets and progress.
- Generating personalized workout and meal suggestions.
- Sending account-related emails you request — password resets and sign-up confirmation.
- Basic abuse/rate-limit protection on AI features, so the app stays usable and affordable for everyone.
Nothing you enter is used for advertising, no advertising trackers or third-party analytics are embedded in the app, and your data is never sold or rented to anyone.
Who it's shared with
A small number of outside services ("processors") are used to run the app, and your information is shared with them only as needed to provide that specific piece of the app:
- Supabase — hosts the app's database and handles account sign-in/authentication. Your data is stored there with per-account access rules (row-level security), so only your own signed-in account can ever read or write your own data — not other users, and not us browsing a database table directly.
- Vercel — hosts the app itself and serves every page/request, which means it necessarily processes standard web request data (like IP address) the way any web host does. Vercel does not receive your profile, logs, or Coach conversations beyond what's needed to route the request.
- OpenAI — processes messages you send to Your Coach and generates AI-suggested workouts/meals, per OpenAI's own data handling terms. If the AI feature isn't configured, or you turn off AI-personalized suggestions (see "Your choices & rights" below), the app uses a built-in, non-AI generator instead and nothing is sent to OpenAI.
- USDA FoodData Central & Open Food Facts — queried for nutrition lookups (food search and barcode scans). Only the search term or barcode number is sent — never your account or personal information.
We don't have any other data-sharing relationships. We'd only disclose your information beyond this list if required by law (e.g. a valid legal request), and even then only what's legally necessary.
Cookies & similar technology
The app uses one essential cookie set by Supabase to keep you signed in between visits. That's it — no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels, and no third-party analytics scripts.
Your choices & rights
You're in control of your data at all times:
- Access & export: download everything stored about you — profile, goals, logs, saved meals/exercises, your split, and Coach chat history — as a single file, anytime, from Profile → Privacy & data controls → Download my data.
- Correct or delete individual items: every food log, workout log, saved meal, saved exercise, split day, and chat message has its own edit/delete control right where you see it.
- Turn off AI personalization: a toggle in Profile lets you opt the automatic suggestion cards out of AI entirely, in favor of the built-in non-AI generator — no data leaves the app for that feature when it's off.
- Delete your account: permanently and immediately deletes your account and everything in it, from Profile → Privacy & data controls → Delete my account. This can't be undone. Prefer we do it for you instead? Email mauipossum.picker@gmail.com.
If you're located in the EU/UK, California, or another region with its own privacy law (like the GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights under that law — the controls above already cover the core ones (access, export, deletion), and you're welcome to email mauipossum.picker@gmail.com with any other request.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists, so the app can keep showing you your own history and progress. Deleting your account (above) removes it immediately and permanently. If you email us to request deletion instead, we'll complete it within a few days and confirm by email.
Security
Reasonable technical steps are taken to protect your information, including per-account database access rules (row-level security) so no one else can read your logs, and encrypted connections (HTTPS) between your device and the app. That said, no method of storing or transmitting data online is ever completely secure, so this isn't a guarantee — please use a unique password for your account.
Health & fitness information
Fides is a self-tracking and planning tool, not a medical device or a substitute for advice from a doctor, dietitian, or other qualified professional. Any health-related information you enter (weight, injuries, dietary needs, etc.) is used only to calculate your own in-app targets and suggestions — never diagnosed, evaluated, or shared for any other purpose.
International users
The services above (Supabase, Vercel, OpenAI) may process and store data on servers located outside your own country, including in the United States. By using Fides, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.
Children's privacy
Fides is not intended for use by anyone under 13 years old, and the app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email mauipossum.picker@gmail.com and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the app changes. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update, and meaningful changes will be noted here.
